Jozani Forest

The only place on earth to see the Zanzibar red colobus. Easy walking, good with children, about two hours in the forest.

Jozani is the last stand of the forest that once covered the middle of the island, and the only place on earth with the Zanzibar red colobus. There are around two thousand of them left and they are entirely used to people, so you walk to within a few metres. The boardwalk through the mangrove on the far side is quieter and usually skipped, which is a shame, because it is the better half.
