Safari in Tanzania
Tanzania safari tours across the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara. Lodge, camping and private itineraries, planned by a team based in Tanzania.
- What happens if the weather is poor?
- Ballooning depends on the wind. A cancelled flight is rebooked on a later morning where the itinerary allows it, and refunded where it does not.
- Why does a balloon safari cost what it does?
- A balloon is replaced after about 850 flight hours and costs more than US$100,000. Each flight needs a licensed pilot, a crew of six, and around ten more people on the ground with recovery and transfer vehicles, in a place with no roads to speak of. A substantial part of the price is the park's ballooning fee.
- Can we fly over the migration?
- Sometimes. The best odds are Ndutu between December and March, when the herds congregate to calve. Everywhere else the herd is mobile and may be in one area for a few days. Nobody can promise it, and an operator who does is guessing.
- How far in advance should we book it?
- As early as you can. There are a fixed number of seats each morning and peak season sells out well ahead of the trip.
